Exciting things happening for adult skaters

Is it me, or is it quite an exciting time to be an adult skater right now? Maybe these things have always been going on but I'm just becoming aware of them as I learn more about this sport I've become so obsessed with, I'm not sure....either way, it's good.

So, the weekend just gone was BACS - the British Adult Championships, held at Sheffield over the three days. Unfortunately I was only able to go for a short time during one of the days this year due to other commitments, but I wasn't about to miss my friend's skate for anything. But what I did see while there seemed to be a pretty well-organised event, and great camaraderie between skaters from all rinks and disciplines - everyone seemed to be there supporting each other.

The results from the weekend can be found here: BACS 2014 results

Add to all the exciting events happening, there are a number of camps and adult-specific competitions springing up around the country. Of course, NISA's own adult development camp is coming up in August. I've just send off my application for it, can't wait. It was great fun (and hard work!) last year so I'm really looking forward to going again with a few friends this time.

All the information and application forms are here: 2014 Adult Development Camp

I also learned recently about a Summer Skills Competition being held at Lee Valley next month, which sounds like a fantastic idea. I don't have a programme/routine to use at the moment, but I'll definitely consider it next year if it's popular enough to get a second year.

The competition is being run by the relatively newly-established London Adult Figure Skating Club and includes spin, spiral, jump categories for all levels of skater, from complete beginners (Up to but not including Skate UK level 10). There's also a dance category and a "skills" category which is open to all levels. There's more information on this competition here: LAFSC Summer Skills competition 2014

There doesn't seem to be much like this around for adult skaters so it's great to see. I know there was also an adult competition held by Whitley Bay club last year sometime, which was a fantastic event. I think they are planning to hold another, which is more great news.
